about DJ Mana
Annam Lê, aka DJ Mana, has been DJing since 1993. The turntable was his first musical instrument, and remains one of his strongest weapons. His early years of DJing were heavily influenced by a mix of Chicago house music and 90s rave, but quickly gravitated towards hip-hop when he discovered turntablism in 1998. Since then, his notoriety grew in the DJ battle circuit, boasting high rankings in competitive arenas such as DMC, ITF, KoolMixx, Vestax Extravaganza, and Analog Wars. After stepping away from the battle scene, Mana opened Soul Mechanics DJ School in 2004 to share his knowledge with aspiring DJs as well as with the global community of turntablists. His musical endeavors began to move towards electronic music production and live tonal scratching, as characterized by his band Microtone Kitchen, which turned many heads in 2006 and 2007, including a performance at the International Jazz Festival in Montreal.
Presently, Mana is pursuing studies in Mechanical Engineering at Concordia University in Montreal. He is working on his forthcoming 3 part EP Series, "Cortical Transmissions", to be released on Nostomania Records. Mana continues to give DJ lessons as well.
